Katherine C. Akinc

Katherine (“Kat”) Akinc handles a broad range of estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters in her practice. She works with individuals and families to develop estate plans that achieve clients’ personal and tax objectives as well as focuses on the practical aspects and implementation of such plans. This includes fundamental estate planning through wills, revocable trusts and incapacity documents as well as business succession planning and sophisticated wealth transfer techniques, such as intentionally defective grantor trusts and split interest trusts.

Additionally, Kat represents both executors and beneficiaries in probate and estate administration, including the preparation and filing of federal estate tax returns. She also counsels trustees and trust beneficiaries with respect to the proper administration of trusts and other related trust matters.

Kat received a B.A. in History from Rice University and a J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. She is also board certified in Estate Planning & Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Prior to joining Brink Bennett Flaherty Golden, Kat worked in the Trusts and Estate section at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright) in Houston and Austin and also at Ikard Golden Jones, P.C. in Austin.

Kat has been named a Super Lawyers Texas Rising Star in 2016-2018. She is a regular speaker at Texas State Bar conferences and other events, an active member of the Austin Round Table (president 2017- 2018) and the lead parent partner for her sons’ preschool.
